did you know cows know their name!
That’s what google says when you research it, but I think if you go out there and treat them with care and say there name they start to reconize you your voice the sound you make when you talk to them.
They probably start to feel safe around you and realise you’re not a threat and trust you more.
there’s also a study that proves cows have best friends…
https://www.barnsanctuary.org/the-barn-blog/cows-have-best-friends-too-the-science-of-cow-friendship
it says ” Research done by Krista McLennan of Northampton University indicates that cows do indeed have “best friends.” For the study, cows were penned for 30 minute intervals twice, once with a preferred partner, a “best friend,” and once with a cow that they did not know. During this time, the heart rates of the cows were measured.
As it turned out, when paired with their best friend, the cows’ heart rates were significantly lower and they experienced less stress overall.”
So if you think about it when us humans come in and sort them out for pasture we could be separating BCF’s (best cow friends) for the summer. How do you find out their best friends though? you would have to watch a specific cow for days seeing who she hangs out with and grooms with and is always next to. It’s not easy with a whole herd to figure out who’s besties.
Cow’s can go without their friend, studies have just shown they do better together then apart.
Some sites say cows not only have cow best friends but sometimes human friends they can tell the difference in faces and can recognise up to 100 faces! they can also tell people by their clothes or way they walk and particularly remember the faces of those who regularly feed or handle them.
Cows can also recognise familiar voices and they can tell the person by there voice, but cows have an excellent memory so if you take good care of them and are calm they’ll trust you more. Apparently though cows can hold a grudge.
All of that to say cows are smarter than we think they are not just methane producers or McDonald’s standing in a pen.

Until next time – Pip
